Match the frequency to the household

Weekly cleaning is worth it if:

• Two or more children live in the house.
• You have one or more pets that shed.
• Both adults work full-time and can't (or don't want to) fit cleaning around the week.
• You entertain regularly.
• Someone in the house has asthma or dust allergies.

Fortnightly usually works if:

• You're a couple or small family without pets.
• You tidy and wipe kitchen surfaces most days.
• You're happy to run a hoover round in the middle week.

Monthly rarely works alone:

• Bathrooms and kitchens build up limescale, grease and soap scum quickly.
• Dust is visible on hard floors within 10–14 days in most homes.

• Kitchen: surfaces, hob, sink, exterior of appliances, floor.
• Bathrooms: bath, shower, toilet, basin, tiles, mirrors, floor.
