Weekly cleaning checklist

A room-by-room weekly cleaning checklist for a typical UK home. Print it, tick it off, or use it as the scope for a cleaner.

Kitchen

  • Wipe worktops and splashbacks
  • Clean hob and wipe around burners
  • Wipe outside of oven, extractor, microwave, kettle and toaster
  • Clean sink and taps; descale visible limescale
  • Wipe fridge/freezer door and handles
  • Empty bin and replace liner
  • Hoover and mop floor

Bathrooms (per bathroom)

  • Clean bath / shower / screen
  • Descale visible limescale on taps and glass
  • Clean toilet, including base and behind
  • Clean basin, taps and mirror
  • Wipe tiles and towel rail
  • Empty bin
  • Mop floor

Living areas

  • Dust surfaces: shelves, sills, picture frames, TV
  • Tidy visible clutter
  • Hoover carpets and rugs
  • Mop hard floors
  • Wipe mirrors and glass surfaces
  • Empty bins

Bedrooms

  • Change bed linen (weekly or fortnightly)
  • Dust reachable surfaces
  • Hoover carpets and around bed
  • Mop hard floors
  • Empty bins

Hallways and stairs

  • Hoover stairs and hall
  • Wipe banister and light switches
  • Mop hard floors
